I suppose this might come as a shock, but...I'm buying a Mac.
I recieved some interesting reactions to this statement. My brother wished me luck with it. One of my teachers commented that I'd be sacraficing all my computer knowledge by turning to an unfamiliar platform. Some thought it was cool. I myself have always held some sort of grudge against Apple, because I always believed their products were too expensive, underpowered, and unsupported. I also have always held a similar grudge against Intel, because of my loyalty to AMD, and my longtime belief that their products are overpriced. So whenever Apple announced it would be using Intel processors for its upcoming products, I naturally was not pleased. However, a few months later, I came across a very interesting article in USA Today that detailed Apple's plans to support Windows on their hardware.
Now, that's an interesting plan. I've always liked the design of Mac hardware, but never actually considered buying any of their products because of the drastic change in operating systems that it would require. I've always thought of MacOS as very interesting, but I couldn't escape the impression that it was just a toy (and a very attractive toy at that). I would use one if it were free. Operating system aside, Macs, in my opinion, are very well designed, and are very attractive. I wouldn't pay for one, but they're nice to look at. Then again, that is, of course, my approach to most things in life, so it doesn't really surprise me. However, some with deep pockets might think differently. I've already heard of many who are considering the purchase of Apple hardware to run Windows. I think Apple made a good decision.
Well, just the other day I heard Apple introduced a new line of laptops. Up until then, the only Intel-based laptops they offered were those included in the MacBook Pro line, which start at roughly $1799. The new MacBooks (sans Pro) are offered starting at $1099 (a very reasonable price), and are very well equipped and designed. I love the minimalistic design. Take what you need, and that's all. Give them the ability to run Windows, and all of a sudden, I'm finding Macs appealing. In fact, give me one now.
My decision is based upon more factors than just this, however. Originally I wanted a desktop replacement laptop that could do everything I could possibly want. That way, I could just leave my desktop at home and not lug it to Clemson with me. Well, I'd hate to do that. Anyway, so I started thinking about what I really was going to use a laptop for. I'd use it for internet, word processing, perhaps some graphics and video editing. If I wanted to play a game, my desktop at home would run it better. And where would I want to play a game? On the go? With a battery life of 1 hour? I don't think so. So, I resolved to get a more basic laptop for more basic things, and invest the money I'd save into buying a smaller case and an LCD display for my desktop. But how do I get a cheaper laptop without sacrificing quality? The MacBook comes along. It can do everything I want, even in MacOS. It's perfect for me, and since I'll have Windows on my desktop computer, I'm free to dabble in the Dark Side on my laptop (or is Windows the dark side?). Anyway, I would also have the ability to switch over Windows any time I want, and still have a pretty slick looking laptop.
Clemson discourages this. I don't care. I hate IT deparments. They want me to buy a $1600 IBM with specifications that are no better. I'm not sold on that idea at all. So, I'm going Mac, and I'll make sure to let everyone know what it's like.
Yeah, and I know a lot of you are thinking "dumbass," but I'd like to inform you that I'm certainly not naive when it comes to computers. I know what I'm doing. Thank you.

Whose Worth Cannot Be Measured
Alas! I have returned to bestow a great blessing upon society, which is, of course, my senseless ramblings on irrelevant and insignificant topics. You may ask what inspired such an act of generosity, to which I would answer, "I just wanted to be an inspiration to the world. I just wanted to show it a far greater great than it has ever before witnessed. And to inform all of its lowly inhabitants that they will never achieve such greatness." Well, in all actuality, this is not the way I think. In fact, I am a quiet, sensitive guy who enjoys walks in the park, the smell of fresh roses, and long, hot bubble baths. Yes, precisely.
For my medium of destruction, I have chosen Blogger. Perhaps you're thinking your eyes have deceived you. Yes, I chose Blogger, which is a product of Google, because Google actually makes things that work, unlike MySpace, whose site is one of the most poorly constructed that I have ever seen. You know, that inspires me. I think you should all expect a rant of MySpace in the very near future. "Goodnight," Jeremy said, as he began to prance into the darkness while laughing maniacally.
